Guadalupe Mountains National Park

We crossed into New Mexico. First stop Guadalupe Mountains National Park, where we wished we were younger and could do some serious hiking.

El Capitan mountain peak. It is not quite
the highest peak of the Guadalupe Mountains
but it is the one everyone hikes up to get to the
peak which is behind it in this pic.

There's a nice little roadside stop on
the way up to the park.

Mountain Mahogony

Visitor's Center at GMNP. They had strict
COVID-19 protocols.

The plant is a Banana Yucca, so Sam added the
personal touch for the photo.

This is all that's left of the Pine Spring Stage Stand
(Stage = Stagecoach). Part of the Butterfield
Overland Mail Route.

The home of the original settlers of this area.
Regretfully the museum is closed right now, but
we enjoyed walking around the property.

This fascinates me. Water mixed with carbide
produced gas for the lighting of the lamps in the house.

One of 3 natural springs on the land.

The grasshoppers here are from a horror movie

We hiked a bit of this trail, but were afraid if we
did too much we would not handle hike in
Carlsbad Caverns the next day.

Still some fall colors out this way
