Colorado Bend State Park

This is the third state park within an hour's drive of our new home in Lampasas. It is quite rustic and mostly full of hiking trails. The road to access passes through private property and open range land so you have to watch for cattle and deer. There are no cabins or RV hookup sites, just river side tent camping areas. The whole vicinity is under a burn ban right now. Swimming is available in Spicewood Spring, which we enjoyed, but you'll see no photos because it is a 1/2 mile hike to the spring so you carry as little as possible.
As we were leaving dusk was setting in so the deer were coming out to graze. Signs recommend you do not hike at this time as there are also mountain lions looking for food as dusk and dawn.

We counted a herd of about 20 gathering in the empty campsites
for grazing.

Fortunately he was not in the middle of the road.
