Today is our 14th wedding anniversary. I had an orthodontist appointment in Sulphur Springs so we decided to make a day of it and visit some sites there. No, I do not normally go to Sulphur Springs for my ortho visits, but Dr. Spencer was not going to be in Greenville this week and I needed to get this last check up in before the move to Lampasas.
Sulphur Springs sits about half way between Dallas and Texarkana. It used to actually have some sulphur springs but they are gone now. In the early 1930s the town courted Carnation Dairy Company and successfully became the dairy capital of Texas. At one time they were host to 600+ Grade A dairies. There are now also a number of horse breeders making their home in Hopkins County.
We had a lovely lunch at the Alcove Restaurant (highly recommended if you find yourself in the area). Cuban panini and a Texas red for me. Scallops and grits for Sam with a pinot grigio.
The public library hosts two interesting attractions. One is the Leo St. Clair music box collection. Mr. St. Clair collected unique boxes through many years; some were owned by the famous or used in movies. The library also has the Sinclair World War II collection. He went to war as part of the 36th Infantry Division, aka T-Patchers because of a patch on their uniform of an arrowhead with a big initial T in the middle. She became a Rosie the Riveter. They apparently had some money before and after the war because their collection includes menus from many nice Dallas area restaurants and photos of their cars through the years.
The downtown square features a public restroom with two way mirrors - the person inside can clearly see those on the outside.
Last but not least, the Southwest Dairy Museum takes you on a trip down memory lane if you are the grandson of a farmer. It really is geared to education of children.
The outside of the toilet.

I'm on the inside and Sam is on the outside.

Veterans Memorial

One of the music boxes.

This music box is a replica of the Taj Mahal.

As the music plays he can smoke his hookah.

Leo St Clair

As you blow the horn the reel turns with a sheet like a
player piano.

This one was owned by the Marx Brothers who are from this county.

Sinclair collection

Clearly a decorated veteran.

A 12-cup coffee percolator.

The library employee gave us directions. "Look for the giant cows
and you'll know you've found it. "

I thought cows  had 4 stomachs. They actually have one stomach
with 4 chambers.

Cal C. Umm. He talks about the benefits of calcium
while he rides his bicycle.

This is neat. An animal can walk on the "treadmill" and power the
separator.

A donated collection of butter molds.

The best part of  the tour. Happy Anniversary my love.
