We checked into a cabin at Lake Brownwood late afternoon yesterday. Enjoyed a fantastic meal of salmon and shrimp from the grill. Sam tried sleeping outside on my camp bed but the raccoons were too friendly and the wind blew stuff out of the trees on to him. Wednesday after work and lunch we went for a hike. Short naps followed, and lead to another hike. The park could be called Oak Tree SP - there are so many oaks.

The trails have these in various key spots for rest. |
Sam at the bottom of the Grand Staircase. I'm standing on the last step before you're in the lake. |
36th Division of the CCC built this park. |
A commercial kitchen has been added. Rents for private functions. The cast iron lantern cages were made at the CCC blacksmith shop. That shop building is now a large cabin. |

An early butterfly. We saw many more caterpillars than butterflies |
Steak, potatoes and onions and a nice table red. |
Campfires are required. Getting our marshmallows toasty brown. |
Notice how close the water is to this electrical source? About a dozen campsites were flooded. The highest lake level in several years. |
