From San Saba we traveled to Menard, TX (stop for lunch in Richland Springs) where the Presidio de San Saba, on the San Saba river. Jim Bowie and his men had traveled here from San Antonio looking for gold and silver buried by the Indians. One of the men carved Bouie into the stone. We checked into the best hotel in Menard ("American Owned Hilltop Motel"). Actually had a good night's sleep but friendliness is far from present at this motel. Then played 9 holes at the Menard Golf Course. If you hit too far on holes 6 or 8 your ball will be in the presidio. Looked at some waterfront property here but decided against living here. We couldn't even bring ourselves to eat in the "best restaurant" in town.
