Lake Whitney State Park is west of Peoria, TX. They had just repaired and upgraded all their screen shelters, then this past Sunday's storm damaged them all again, along with their day use area. This SP has a lot of choices for RVers or tent campers who do not care too much about privacy or official tent pads. Water, water, everywhere! Fishing, kayaking, swimming abounds.
Waco Mammoth National Monument is a joint project of the City of Waco, Waco Mammoth Foundation, Baylor University, and the National Parks System. In 1978 2 teenage boys exploring a dry creek bed found a bone. They dug it up and took it to Baylor archaeology department. It was recognized as something special and the dig began with the land owners property. Since that time they have discovered the largest Columbian (not Woolly) Mammoth nursery. Bosque and Brazos rivers converge in this area and the strata suggests this was a herd which was caught in a flash flood and/or mudslide.

This sign makes it clear where you'll end up if you don't stop now.

The vultures seem happy in this park.

There are many deer as well.

Did I mention the vultures

These goats never slowed down eating.

Okay, I don't really know why I took this pic.

Mammoth Quincy is the only male found. He appeared to be carrying a juvenile when he was swept forward by the water

Life -sized (short 1/2 foot) of Mammoth Quincy, though they must speculate what he really looked like.
