Took part of Old San Antonio Road (OSR) from I-45 to Texas 6. Then on to Bryan/College Station. Most all businesses closed today.

Rex Allen Museum Willcox AZ

Rex Allen and Koko the Wonder Horse are from Willcox. He was the last of the singing cowboys. Koko was originally supposed to be a horse for Dale Evans but proved to be too "spirited" for her. In addition to his many cowboy movies and a short-lived tv show, he narrated many of the Disney nature documentaries and released many an album. Some of Rex's wardrobe. This statue is located across the street from the museum. Rex's ashes and Koko are buried under the statue base. On the next stop in this road trip, Silver City, NM, we had lunch with another traveling couple. It turns out he was the first curator of the Rex Allen Museum. Note: Rex Allen, Jr. followed in his father's footsteps as a recording artist.

Albuquerque Part 3 Petroglyph National Monument

The rocks the ancients used as canvases are basalt from a long extinct volcano. The darker the image the older the drawing.

City of Rocks (New Mexico) State Park

Volcanic in origin this New Mexico State Park shares similarities with the Chiricahua National Monument that we visited earlier on this trip. (See previous blog post) You could say we are really rocking. :-) There are campsites within the various rock groupings. What better place to begin than a rock garden. Headless camel?
