Veterans Day weekend included a trip to Grand Saline, TX to the Salt Palace. The salt dome here is the largest in the world. It's a dome, but it's crest is below ground. Morton operates the salt mine. Every 6 months a rabbi visits to test the purity level and then bless a portion of the salt so it can be sold as kosher salt.

Top to Bottom: (1)Welcome area to the Salt Palace (2) Sam wants to make sure you see the big salt rock (3) historical marker telling us about Jordans Saline for whom the city of Grand Saline is named, (4)Wiley Hardeman was a pioneer aviator and also from Van Zandt county (5) Tracy licks the giant salt lick. It's okay to lick the salt rock because salt kills germs - in fact you cannot grow bacteria on salt making it an excellent source of healing sore throat or mouth ulcer (6) salt flats on the edge of town (7-12) shots inside the museum including volunteer Tamasa King who is very knowledgeable.
