Here we go - almost. As each of you knows we are headed to travel a lot in 2017. We've been getting a taste for it with some short trips this fall. Veterans Day weekend we went to Lake Tawakoni SP, Lindale, and Tyler SP where we enjoyed a nice guided hike with Ranger Boyd to learn about the beaver pond. We were accompanied by a fairly large group of men and girls on their 4th annual Father-Daughter camping trip. It was clear Range Boyd likes having kids on his hikes.
Turns out beavers are the largest rodent. As a rodent their teeth continue to grow throughout their lives. To keep them sharp and reduced in size they gnaw on tree bark. They particularly like the sweet gum tree since it's so tasty.
On the hike we also saw examples of a dead tree loved by woodpeckers, a tree with little matching holes in a row are made by the yellow-bellied sap sucker, and a resurrection fern can look brown and dead for up to 97 years and still spring back to green life with a little rain.

The photo above was taken December 3 on our visit to the George W. Bush Presidential Center. It is the recreation of 43's oval office.
