Veterans Day Weekend

Another part of Veterans Day weekend was visiting Tyler State Park where we took a guided tour with Ranger Boyd. We learned about some of the flora and fauna of the park but mostly the hike was to learn about the beaver colony that has moved into the park.

Tyler State Park was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps.

The crumbly dried fern is called Resurrection Fern. It will stay like this until rain replenishes it - up to 97 years. The little even sized holes in the tree were made by a  yellow bellied sap sucker (bird).
Beavers have gnawed on this sweet gum tree. They like the sweet gooey sap. The gnawing helps to wear down their teeth that grow throughout their whole life as they are rodents. It also helps sharpen their front teeth.
Woodpeckers have done a number on this tree

Red Ear Sliders abound in the park waters.

Plenty of water fun available at this park.

This is Tracy's favorite photo taken during our hike.

There was also a brief visit to Lake Tawakoni SP. The two photos below were taken there.
