Tracy's employer surprised everybody just a week before Thanksgiving with the announcement they would be closed the whole holiday weekend. We immediately began planning a road trip. Ultimately we stayed in Albuquerque and traveled north by rail for a few hours in Santa Fe, then south by car to Belen. We woke up to a beautiful snow scene on Saturday.

| Martin also owns a bookstore and small theater in Santa Fe. It's a welcoming place and a number of their newer books are author signed. |

| Fred Harvey was an astute businessman. He built a number of "houses" at railroad stops and employed single women. The Harvey girls served hot meals and warm surroundings to train passengers. There were rooms upstairs for the girls lodging. This is the only one left and the Whistle Stop Cafe gets great reviews. Regretfully they were closed for the holiday weekend. |
