Rattlesnake Springs at Carlsbad Caverns National Park

This day use picnic area used to be retreat grounds for the bombardiers stationed in Carlsbad, NM. The buildings are gone now except for the one private home which is currently unoccupied. The ranger we spoke with could not tell us the true origin of the name Rattlesnake Springs other than they have rattlesnakes in the park and it's a spring.

There are still fruit-bearing trees here the park employees enjoy

The 10th Cavalry Unit of Buffalo Soldiers
surveyed and mapped this land when they weren't
busy running the Mescalero Apaches off their land.
