Monahans, TX

Monahans is the county seat or Ward County. It has a population of about 7600. It is the center of the Permian Basin which means it was under a salty sea at one time. It was founded by John Thomas Monahan, a surveyor hired by the Texas & Pacific Railroad to find water for the steam engines. Monahan's Well provided an abundance.
It is also the home to the Monahans Sand Hills State Park.  A windy place to visit but lot so fun sliding down those sand hills in a plastic disc.

This beauty is in the old railroad "section house" which is now used by the state park.

It's a hike up there but worth the trip.

Even if you don't slide down the the view from the top
has a WOW factor.

Not many states can boast of a state park with an
active pump jack.

The bar inside the old section house.

Yep, that's a golf course. 4-Holes

Did I mention it's windy out here?

This is in the same county. There used to be a bomber
base here, which explains the 4-hole golf course.
