Spring Ho! 2019 Parade

Last year, our first full summer living here, we were out of town during Spring Ho! week. This year we stayed in town. It has been hotter than blue blazes all week. Today, that meant a most entertaining parade. As we sat in the shade of one of the downtown stores awaiting the start time to chime eleven on the Courthouse clock, I noticed a large of people had brought super-soaker water guns. As many of the parade vehicles came by those in the parage and on the sidelines traded water gun shots. Those that were dressed up, like the Grand Marshals, did not get dowsed. But those who wanted to get wet had no trouble achieving their goal.
Since 1972 Lampasas has hosted this festival the second week in July. A bit of the backstory on the name: the first settlers came to the area seeking the healing waters of the natural springs. Just as those traveling across seas to a new world shouted "Land, Ho!" when they came near the new continent, the first ones to spot one of the springs on the horizon shouted "Spring, Ho.!"
It was a great parade and you'll only see about half of the individual vehicles in the parade. I took my first photo at the front of the parade at 11:22 am. I look my last photo at 12:06.

Standing in honor of our flag is an automatic response to its arrival for this crowd.
