Big Bend National Park

After 21 years in Texas, I finally made it to Big Bend National Park. We called the Chisos Mountain Lodge the morning we left the Indian Lodge in the Davis Mountains and they confirmed they had a room available for one night. The Chisos Mountains are the only mountain range located exclusively inside a national park. They are at a higher elevation than the rest of the park and the temperature was a pleasant mid-50s at night. We slept with the windows open.

Casa Grande, the tallest rise in the Chisos range.

Looking right off of our room's patio.

The view looking left from our room's patio.

This shot is with almost maximum zoom range. It just intrigued us.

Looking through the "window".

Another view of the "window".

This shot is without any zoom. We were close. Seeing him
made my week!

He's about 2 years old and probably male since he is on his own.
Some college students were ahead of us on the trail and got
into creative rock stacking. Yep, that's me off to the left in the
frame.

As the sun moves the "personality" of the mountains really
comes through.
We think this one looks like super big creatures dropped
rocks in a pile as they went by.

Sunset in the "window".

area where the above photos were taken.

It's true. The astronauts trained as geologists
before going to the Moon.
Do you see the Thunderbird symbol?
