December 2018 Day trip

A sunny day took us on a day trip to visit  Spider Mountain and Thunder Lodge near Burnet, TX. Thunder Lodge has been hidden back on Lake Buchanan for many years. The new owners are bringing in a ski lift from a defunct ski lodge in Colorado and will use it to transport mountain bicyclists to the top of Spider Mountain for a trail ride down.

The next stop was a brief visit to Inks Lake State Park for a snack and stroll. Then on to Kingsland and a visit to the historic Antlers Hotel. Kingsland is at the junction of the Llano and Colorado Rivers making it an ideal place for a train stop. Where there are visitors a hotel will arise. The current facility was refurbished and reopened in 1996. It includes the main hotel building, train cars and a train depot outfitted as guest suites, and another old house that serves as the restaurant.

Sam tells me the red and white checked sign is used by a surveyor
who needs to spot a control point a great distance away.

Inks Lake was looking beautiful even in Winter.

This guy had some successful fishing. Striped bass.

Ball Moss. It is not a parasite and does not kill the tree.

One of the rivers is at the back of the property.

Turn your old wheelbarrow into a fairy garden.

Guest accommodations.

The restaurant. The house itself was once located in Round Rock,
TX where it was rented as a movie set for The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
In 1998 it was dismantled and moved to Kingsland by the owners of
The Antlers Hotel, the refurbished as their restaurant.
