Enchanted Rock State Natural Area

Located outside of Fredericksburg, this pink granite dome rises 425' above the surrounding area. While a "state natural area" instead of a "state park" you can still camp overnight. We just made a day trip and managed to reach the summit after a picnic lunch. Note to self for the future: take more than 20 oz of water and hike before noon. Even though weather forecasts were for only low 90s by 3pm, we headed up about noon and it's hotter up on the rock reflecting all that sun and coming down is as taxing on the body as going up.

There are biospheres all over the rock. The pools of water
have fairy shrimp (think sea monkeys)

Proof we made it to the top.
