Del Rio Part 2

The movie The Alamo with John Wayne was filmed not far from Del Rio. Sam says you used to be able to drive up to the old set, or what's left of it anyway, but it's on private property and closed off now. Of course, I cannot imagine much of it still standing.
The front view is deceptive. There is a lot of
interesting stuff behind the building

Delia Hernandez wore this dress
in the movie (1959) and donated
it to the museum.

Two buildings on the property are dedicated to Judge Roy Bean. The first is a set of 6 little diaramas of his life and the second is a replica of the bar he named for Lillie Langtry. Apparently, he had one heck of crush on her.
One of Lillie Langtry's traveling pianos.

Used in The Alamo movie and was
later given to John Wayne's daughter
as a birthday present.

Casper is a White Salmon Crested Cockatoo from Eastern
Indonesia. Over 50 years old. When he is frightened, which
he clearly was when we approached his cage, his crest
goes up and he squawks while pacing back and forth
on his post.

A Blue and Gold Macaw named Bo. He is native to the forest
and woodlands of South America.
Ms. Cadena collected folk art pieces for years to build her
nativity scene. Each Christmas the children of the city would
file through her home to see it and get a small bag of candy.
After her death, it sat unused for 15 years. When it was found
and restored then donated to the Museum. The photos really
can't do it justice.
