Charles Goodnight. (1836-1929) Came to Milam County from IL as a child. Grew up on the frontier and became a Texas Ranger and Frontier Scout. He and his partner Oliver Loving blazed a trail with their cattle on the way to Fort Sumner, NM after the Civil War. The Goodnight-Loving Trail became one of the most widely-used cattle trails. |
