Hamilton Pool Reserve

Hamilton Pool is a collapsed grotto forming a natural swimming hole. It is now owned and operated as a Travis County Park which means rules and an entrance fee. It is a small park so reservations are required in high season.  To swim you hike down a trail and turn right to hike farther to the hole. If you turn left at the bottom of the first hike down you can hike on another 3/4 of a mile to reach the Pedernales River. There is a 50 foot waterfall you can go behind or swim under, but jumping from the top if dangerous and forbidden. The park provides life jackets for use on the honor system, and there is a park staff member hanging out down there all the time. He tries to be inconspicuous, and is not intended to be a lifeguard, but is able to report an emergency if necessary.
