South Llano River State Park at Junction, TX

From Mason on to Junction, TX. The South Llano River and North Llano River converge in this area. A retired jeweler from Hillsboro bought the land for a family ranch in 1910 in search of a dryer climate for his oldest son, Stroud, who had TB. While Stroud died the next year Walter Buck made a go of it anyway and it prospered under his care. Walter, Jr continued in caring for it and in 1977 donated it to Texas Parks and Wildlife.

Despite spending quite a bit of time
hiking in the Turkey Roost area we did
not spot one nest or turkey.
The Friends of Llano SP have built this amazing bird blind
You cannot really tell from this photo but birds are everywhere.
We could have sat here all morning.

I'm pretty sure this is the ladder-backed woodpecker

Structures left from the Walter Buck Ranch.
Aeromotor parts today work on Aeromotor
pumps from the beginning of the company.
This pump is still active.

South LLano River is one of the most pristine in the state.
