Well, my friends and family, after a heat advisory day on Saturday we decided to head for higher elevations and cooler temps. On Sunday we were on the road about 10 hours, the first few in the rain, and arrived in Santa Rosa, NM. We had planned to stay in Fort Sumner and visit the grave and museum of Billy the Kid, but just didn't like the looks of the town. Can't say we missed anything by skipping that museum. After all, we had been to one in Hico, TX where they claim he is actually buried.
After a delicious breakfast as the Sun and Sand Restaurant, where you still make a phone call from the public phone booth, we visited the Santa Rosa Park and the famous Blue Hole.  Then on to the Santa Rosa State Park and Dam.
A whole lot of nothing out here. Might should have let Mexico keep it.
This is the visitors center.

Of course we found a golf course, but it was late in the day and it was closed.

The red pipe was "connected" to a scuba diver who surfaced a
few minutes after we arrived. Guess that's how his wife kept
an eye on him since he was diving alone.

Not big but very deep and crystal clear water. It refreshes itself
every 6 hours so it is truly never the same water twice.
This is the closest I'll ever get to scuba diving.

Hmmm. Pink scuba gear?
