Busy all weekend having fun! After work Friday morning took a picnic lunch to McKinney Falls State Park. The falls are small compared to something in Georgia, but they are indeed falls. Since this SP is adjacent to the TPWD state headquarters it gets a lot of attention. There is a very nice hike-n-bike trail around a large part of the park. The picnic tables are in good condition. There were a lot of young people (high school seniors or college) riding bicycles, laying around on the rocks of the falls and swimming. There are 5 cabins for rental but they do not have private bathrooms. Plenty of tent and RV sites.
Friday night we met up with friends David and Jolyn, Gary and Leslie and Eric. We get to see all of them about once a year so there is not shortage of conversation. Thursday was Jolyn's b'day so we bought a small cake to celebrate with after dinner.
Saturday morning I slept in until almost 8:30. Finally left the hotel about 10:30 and took the scenic route to the O. Henry Museum grounds for the 40th Annual O. Henry Pun-Off. It's a fund raiser for the O. Henry house/museum and the Susannah of the Alamo house/museum so the awards are just medallions on a long ribbon, and the bragging rites. There were contestants from a dozen different states and Canada. There were food trucks, a used book sale, and a very good turnout. We snagged good seats at the music, by Shiny Ribs, started at 11:00 and competition started at noon. New friends we first met in February, Lester and Jenny, arrived about 12:30 and we all laughed and groaned for several hours as well as toured the house-museums.
After a hotel rest Lester and Jenny picked us up and drove out to The Oasis - a 3-story restaurant/bar/night club/shopping complex made of stone which sits high atop a ridge overlooking Lake Travis. Their patios have a great view of the sunset and the crowds turn out just for that. We lucked out and got a prime table to watch it. The band Top Choice was playing a variety of popular songs from several decades and people were hitting the dance floor.
Sunday we visited the First United Methodist Church Austin for 9:00am service then met Lester and Jenny for an early lunch at 11:00. After lunch we hit the road again.
View from lying down on the picnic table bench. A beautiful day

Onion Creek is the source of McKinney Falls.

Their "amphitheater" could use and upgrade.

But a super nice hike/bike trail

A hike to the lower falls takes you across a seemingly
endless limestone shale flat

Did I mention it seems endless?

However, if you pay close attention you might see a
new species of fish to be a future fossil.

Lower falls.
