We traveled from Rockport to South Padre Island. You can't get any further south and still be on Texas soil instead of in Mexico or the gulf thereof. Sam attended TSPS mid-winter symposium for his annual CEUs. I worked Friday morning and played Friday afternoon and all day Saturday. Beautiful weather, though windy, which they say is normal this time of year. Friday night Chapter 19 of TSPS, host chapter for symposium, hosted Loteria Chalupa, Mexican Bingo. It's fun though clearly and old game as the card images are politically incorrect. The local chapter president, Manny (I think) told of how this was a family game from his childhood, particularly played on Christmas Eve. You to to buy your card for a quarter and the  winner ended up with $3-4. I got the itch to hit a few golf balls Saturday afternoon and found the SPI Golf Club, which it turns out is about 8 miles from the island. (hmmm) We ate a lot of fresh seafood (Sam had oysters every day) and an amazing burger at our hotel restaurant. We stayed at the conference hotel, The Pearl. 5th floor room with balcony gave us a view of the pool and the beach. More Winter Texans to meet. All was well until Sat. night when the new neighbors checked in and were partying with friends until 12:30. Made for a short night and extra challenging 12 hour drive home on Sunday.
Clay Underwood, country cover musician and singer/songwriter at the bar at Isla Grand. VERY GOOD!

NOT on South Padre Island.

Playing Mexican Bingo. Ultimately more people showed up.

Our winnings from Mexican Bingo.

Largest Permanent Sand Castle on SPI

Closer look at the other end. You can take sand castle building lessons on the island.
Dinner our last night on SPI

Sunset over the bay on SPI

Wonder which of the 3 trees this is under (at a State rest area) is "the" tree.
